Understanding Your Child’s Surgery

Cleft lip or cleft palate repair is a minor surgery that is highly successful. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, our doctor has both dental and medical training, and in addition to expertise in this type of surgery, can properly address any emergencies that may arise. Your child will need sedation or anesthesia during surgery, which we are trained and licensed to provide in office. During the surgery, we will gently close the lip split(s), repositioning the tissues into a more natural and aesthetic position. For palate repair, the tissues and muscles in the mouth are used to reposition and rebuild the natural roof of the mouth. When the incisions are sutured in place, the surgery will be over! We’ll provide all the necessary instructions to prepare your child for surgery and how to care for them during recovery.
